چکیده

—We present ETCH, efficient channel hopping based MAC-layer protocols for communication rendezvous in Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) networks. Compared to the existing solutions, ETCH fully utilizes spectrum diversity in communication rendezvous by allowing all the rendezvous channels to be utilized at the same time. We propose two protocols, SYNC-ETCH, which is a synchronous protocol assuming DSA nodes can synchronize their channel hopping processes, and ASYNC-ETCH, which is an asynchronous protocol not relying on global clock synchronization. Our theoretical analysis and ns-2 based evaluation show that ETCH achieves better performances of time-to-rendezvous and throughput than the existing work.

The Life Cycle of the Rendezvous Problem of Cognitive Radio Ad Hoc Networks: A Survey

In cognitive radio or dynamic spectrum access networks, a rendezvous represents meeting two or more users on a common channel, and negotiating to establish data communication. The rendezvous problem is one of the most challenging tasks in cognitive radio ad hoc networks. Generally, this problem is simplified by using two well-known mechanisms: the first uses a predefined common control channel,...

A Dynamic Parallel-rendezvous MAC Mechanism in Multi-rate Cognitive Radio Networks: MechanismDesign and Performance Evaluation

Parallel rendezvous multi-channel MAC mechanisms are regarded as an efficient method for media access control in cognitive radio networks since they do not need a control channel and use only one transceiver. However, existing parallel rendezvous MAC mechanisms assume that all channels have the same maximum capacity and channel availability for secondary users. In this paper, we propose a dynam...

Rendezvous in Highly-dynamic CRNs: A Frequency Hopping Approach

Establishing communications in a dynamic spectrum access (DSA) network requires communicating nodes to “rendezvous” before transmitting their data packets. Frequency hopping (FH) provides an effective method for rendezvousing without relying on a predetermined control channel. Current FH rendezvous designs have two main limitations. First, they do not account for fast primary user (PU) dynamics...

A Neighbor Discovery Approach for Cognitive Radio Network Using intersect Sequence Based Channel Rendezvous

In wireless networking, The cognitive is efficient manner to bandwidth utilization. But rendezvous is the most important issue for two or more users on a common channel to establish data communication. Neighbor discovery is a critical task in cognitive radio ad hoc networks, since the secondary users operate on available channels which are dynamically changing according to the primary users act...
